They primarily engage the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves, while the core stabilizes the trunk and transfers force between the legs and arms. Performed over a flat, unobstructed distance, the pattern emphasizes rapid force production, quick ground contacts, and “triple extension” of the hip, knee, and ankle. During the first steps you’ll use a slight forward body angle; as velocity rises, transition toward a tall posture with a neutral head and relaxed shoulders. Proper arm drive (elbows near 90 degrees) coordinates rhythm and helps control rotation. Foot strikes should occur beneath the hips rather than reaching forward, which limits braking and supports higher stride frequency. Run through your finish mark and decelerate gradually to maintain control.
