Skater Exercise Description

Skaters are a lateral, bodyweight hop performed rhythmically from side to side to elevate heart rate while training control in the frontal plane. The movement emphasizes the gluteus medius and maximus, quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves, with the core engaged to stabilize the pelvis and trunk. By pushing off one foot and landing softly on the other, you develop coordination, balance, and elastic energy management at the ankle, knee, and hip. Unlike forward-only cardio, skaters build capacity for side-to-side acceleration and deceleration that translates to everyday movement patterns. Proper technique focuses on a neutral spine, quiet landings, and the knee tracking over the middle of the foot to reduce unwanted valgus. The trailing leg swings behind as a counterbalance but remains light, allowing the stance leg to manage most of the load. How To Do The Skater Exercise

‘- Stand athletic: feet hip-width, knees soft, ribs stacked over pelvis, spine neutral, eyes forward.
– Shift weight to your right foot; hinge slightly at the hips and preload by bending the ankle, knee, and hip.
– Drive laterally off the right foot, pushing through the midfoot to big toe while swinging arms naturally.
– Land on the left foot softly; absorb impact by flexing ankle, knee, and hip in sequence.
– Keep the left knee tracking over the second–third toe; avoid the knee collapsing inward.
– Let the right (trailing) leg sweep behind lightly for balance without bearing significant weight.
– Maintain a quiet torso: chest proud, shoulders down, core braced, hips square to the front.
– Rebound laterally to the right with the same mechanics, staying low and controlled.
– Aim for smooth, continuous side-to-side rhythm; prioritize soft, quiet landings over distance.
