Inchworm To Cobra

Inchworm To Cobra Exercise Description

Inchworm to Cobra is a compound bodyweight drill that links a hip hinge, a high plank, and a controlled prone spinal extension. It trains trunk stability as you walk into the plank and maintain a straight line from head to heels, emphasizing the abdominals and deep core. The Cobra portion introduces deliberate thoracic and lumbar extension with the pelvis grounded, promoting scapular control as you draw the shoulders down and back. Shoulders, chest, and triceps contribute during the press-up, while hamstrings and calves are challenged during the hinge and hand walk. Performed smoothly, it reinforces posture, core bracing, and shoulder alignment through a large, coordinated range of motion.

How To Do The Inchworm To Cobra Exercise

‘- Stand tall, feet hip-width, arms at sides. Brace lightly and set a neutral spine.
– Hinge at the hips with soft knees and place your hands on the floor in front of your feet.
– Walk your hands forward to a high plank: hands under shoulders, fingers spread, ribs down, glutes engaged, body in one line.
– Lower to the floor with control (knees may touch). Keep elbows close to your ribs.
– Place hands under shoulders and press into a low Cobra: elbows slightly bent, pelvis and legs on the floor, sternum lifts forward and up. Shoulders stay down and back; neck long.
– Avoid shrugging or compressing the lower back; maintain gentle abdominal tension and even breathing.
– Lower your chest, tuck toes, press back to a strong high plank by “pushing the floor away.”
– Walk your hands back toward your feet, hinge to rise, and return to standing tall.

Inchworm To Cobra Beginner Introduction

Inchworm to Cobra is a flowing bodyweight movement that connects a forward fold, a traveling plank position, and a gentle backbend on the floor. The pattern combines bending at the hips, moving out into a strong, straight-bodied plank, and then lifting the chest from the ground before reversing the path back to standing. Throughout the sequence, the abs and deep core stay engaged to steady the midsection while the body shifts from upright to horizontal and back again.

This exercise brings many areas into play at once. The shoulders, chest, and arms work during the plank and during the lift of the upper body from the floor. The hamstrings and calves are involved during the hip hinge and when the hands move across the ground. The backbend portion emphasizes opening through the chest and upper back while the hips stay connected to the floor, helping organize shoulder position. Performed in one continuous, unhurried motion, the drill highlights control, coordinated movement, and full-body alignment.
