Band Triceps Kickback

Band Triceps Kickback Exercise Description

The Band Triceps Kickback targets the triceps by extending the elbow while the shoulder and torso remain stable in a hip hinge. You’ll set your upper arm alongside your torso and move only at the elbow, which emphasizes triceps involvement and limits momentum. A resistance band provides continuous tension and an easy setup—anchored under your foot or to a low, fixed point—so you can perform the movement almost anywhere. Key alignment includes a neutral spine, shoulders gently retracted and depressed, elbows close to the ribs, and wrists neutral. Executed with controlled tempo and full, comfortable elbow extension, this exercise helps build strength for pressing and any task that requires straightening the arm.

How To Do The Band Triceps Kickback Exercise

‘- Loop the band under your front foot (or attach it to a low anchor behind you). Hold the free end in one hand.
– Take a split stance, soften your knees, and hinge at the hips so your torso angles forward. Keep a neutral spine and head aligned.
– Set your shoulder blades down and back. Lightly brace your trunk.
– Pull your working elbow up until your upper arm sits beside your torso; keep it there. Wrist neutral, palm facing in.
– Keeping the upper arm still, extend the elbow until your arm is straight without locking out forcefully.
– Pause briefly, then bend the elbow with control to return, maintaining band tension.
– Keep elbows close to your sides; avoid shrugging, swinging the torso, or letting the upper arm drift forward.
– Adjust resistance by stepping on more/less band or changing your distance from the anchor.
– Breathe steadily; avoid holding your breath.
– Repeat on the other side, maintaining identical setup and range of motion.

Band Triceps Kickback Tips

‘- Hinge at the hips with a split stance, soft knees, and keep your spine and head in a neutral line.
– Set your shoulder blades down and back and lightly brace your trunk before starting each rep.
– Pull your working elbow up so your upper arm stays beside your torso and keep it fixed there.
– Keep your wrist neutral with your palm facing in throughout the movement.
– Extend the elbow until the arm is straight, but avoid forcefully locking out at the end.
– Pause briefly at full extension before returning to increase control.
– Bend the elbow back with control, keeping constant tension on the band.
– Keep your elbows close to your sides and avoid shrugging, swinging your torso, or letting the upper arm drift forward.
– Adjust resistance by changing how much band you stand on or how far you are from the anchor.

Band Triceps Kickback Beginner Introduction

The Band Triceps Kickback is a resistance-band arm exercise that highlights the back of the upper arm while the rest of the body holds a steady, hinged position. The band can be secured under a foot or at a low attachment, creating continuous pull against the working arm. The upper arm stays close to the side of the body, and the motion happens mainly at the elbow, which places the effort squarely on the triceps instead of using body swing or momentum.

During the movement, the torso leans forward from the hips with a long, natural curve through the back, the head aligned with the spine, and the shoulders gently drawn down and slightly back. The hand moves the band by straightening and bending at the elbow with a smooth, unhurried rhythm, while the wrist stays in a straight line with the forearm. This combination of steady body position, isolated elbow action, and band resistance supports stronger pushing movements and day-to-day actions that involve straightening the arm.
